Private Lessons

Special Message for 2011:  We realize that economic conditions are difficult for many at this time.  We thank our students and the parents of younger students for realizing that music lessons are an important part of your/their growth.  Your loyalty and recommendations have grown this business to our capacity.

We have not raised rates since we began taking students here 3 years ago and we do not plan a rate change this year.  

However, in order to avoid raising our rates we have adopted a new policy regarding excused absences.  We will no longer give credit for missed lessons except if we cancel or if weather conditions cause you to miss.  Instead, we are offering makeup lesson(s) at the end of each lesson block.

Lesson blocks are based around the school sessions at Mount Vernon's school district.  The first lesson block ends on June 4, 2011.  The next 2 full weeks, the weeks of June 6 and June 13, lessons will be given at no charge at your regular time period.  These can be considered makeup lessons for those who have had to miss during the block and bonus lessons for those with perfect attendance.

We will be announcing the dates of the summer session lesson blocks shortly.

Rate:  $60 per month for each of 2 students from a family, $30 per month for third and above. 

Timeliness:  I schedule lessons on 45 minute intervals.  This is to give me the flexibility to run over with your lesson and allow some leeway so you get a full 30 minute lesson.  Please arrive a few minutes early so my work flow can be fairly distributed among all my students.

Practice Record:  Each week the student must record their practice time and present this at the beginning of the lesson.  This is to help you learn to practice efficiently and also determine whether you need to adjust your weekly goal.

Payment:  payments for each month's lessons are due at first lesson of the month.   We can schedule your payment day for a different lesson if this is more comfortable for your budget.  Please don't be embarassed to ask; after all, you're talking to a musician...  :-)  Also, if you can try to keep your account current it will be greatly appreciated!  We will be issuing statements the first week of each month.

Cancellation:  If I cancel your lesson, or if weather conditions prohibit safe travel,  I will give you a credit lesson in the next pay period.

Lesson cancellations should be rare.   If we feel that you are missing lessons due to lack of interest and commitment, then we should talk about it.  Private music lessons are a privilege that you should take advantage of and enjoy, as learning music will enrich your whole life. However, we don't expect that everyone who takes lessons will remain interested or able to continue forever. You should feel free to have this discussion with us; having been a students ourselves we know that sometimes life pulls your attention to other areas.  We have a waiting list for students, so please don't feel bad or awkward if you decide that you'd like to give up your lesson time.

Parking:  You are welcome to park on the LEFT side of our driveway during your lesson if it's free.  There is plenty of parking on the city street, also, although this can be dodgey following heavy snow.

Icy and steep pavement:  We do our best to keep the drive and sidewalks safe and clear in any weather, but sometimes weather will just have its way.  Please be careful when coming up to the house from your car.  It's hard to see at the bottom of the driveway and there might be black ice there from the melting snowpiles.

Piano Tuning

I have had to suspend piano tuning for health reasons.  If you would like a referral, please call 319.895.8002 and I will put you in contact with a member of the Piano Technicians Guild who will do a fine job for you.

Recording Studio Fees

Please note:  there is no smoking indoors.

Setup engineering:   $15 per hour (may be waived at my discretion).

Recording time:   $30 per hour

Mixdown:  $30 per hour

Mastering: $30 per hour

Arranging/composing/performing:  $30 per hour.  This is a separate additional fee from recording time.

Studio rental:   not available at this time.

If you are a composer or artist just trying to get started, or a classical musician into chamber music, a college student, or someone into experimental music, I will probably encourage you to record at Euphonic Studio by offering you a rate that you can't refuse. 

Please feel free to discuss recording fees.  I'm inclined to encourage your creative spirit.
